I have a 53 F100 with a 302 in it. I put a serpentine belt kit on from American Billet & the water pump discharges on the drivers side. I bought & install a new down flow radiator. I have the discharge from the water pump going into the bottom of the Radiator. It is my understanding (now) that the discharge should be going into the top of the radiator. Will it cool the way I have it? If not, any suggestion on how fix this.
Hum, this might not help but from a old and not that good of memory, water pumps don't actually pump, they suck and they suck cooler water (coolant) from the bottom of the rad and move it into the top of the rad to be cooled again.
The old hot water (and air ) rise story. So for the radiator to work the flow would have to be from the bottom to the top. I hope that is right, some google searching might help.
The water pumps flow the same as Old F1 says but the serpentine rotates in the opposite direction because of the way the belts drive them so for a serpentine system you need a reverse flow pump..
So idle minds wonder (and I will look latter today) if my 1992 5.0 litre HO Lincoln engine (302) for my '56, is reverse flow water pump and if so as a cost efficiency (being cheap) a rebuilt pump for newer engine can be used by someone on a older 302 to convert it to reverse flow?
I know mine does but my donor was already serpentine and I used it so all good here . It's funny how our minds work allot of times the information is in there just doesn't come to the surface . I spent quite some time measuring for a engine driven fan , ordered it and woke up at 3 am the next morning thinking it drives off the backside of the belt . First thing in the morning I phoned to change my order and wouldn't you know it " already shipped " . Never ship that quick if you were in a rush . One of your local companies John

Yes should be the same just flows reverse . I take it you are not using a serpentine system .

Yes, I am going to use the stock OEM serpentine system.
My poorly worded question was in a effort to underhandedly, secretly and clandestinely suggest to the original poster that if the pumps will interchange, and if he needs a reverse flow water pump, that rather then paying the big bucks for a after market new one just get a reverse flow rebuilt one for a newer model.
