Help From Number Dummy

Number Dummy,

My 1964 F100 is in the shop for a full body restoration. I bought a new headliner from LMC for a 61 - 64 F100. The shop has told me my truck was built very late in the model year (VIN sequential number 553366) and apparently needs a 1965 headliner. Can you shed any light on anything else that might be different?

Thank you.

Bill

1965 production began with serial number 580,001. Your truck is a 1964, and 1964 headliner is different than 1965.

1964: Two different headliners, perforated (Custom Cab), non perforated (Standard Cab).

Yes, but my shop says the 64 headliner doesn't fit, it is too narrow by about three inches. I guess we will find out when the 65 headliner arrives. I am stuck between a rock and a hard spot.

What do you mean by narrow?

1964/66 roof is exactly the same. The R/L corner pieces came flat, have to be bent into place.

There's a large front section that uses clips to attach it to the shorter rear section where the dome lamp is.

The headliner pieces must be moistened with water using a spray bottle to make them pliable enough to fit in place. It is actually a major PITA to install.

The shop doesn't know what they are talking about. The cab is the same 64 and 65 except for the floor on a 2wd. Here is a 64 Custom Cab perforated 4 piece

1981: I installed a genuine Ford perforated headliner on my 1965 F100. Didn't use a drop of water. Lined up the side pieces...then pushed them into place.

Installed the two main pieces, everything fit perfectly.

The 1975 MPC does show a different part number for some of the 1964 pieces than 1965/66.

And then Dennis Carpenter shows the 2 piece as being 1961-1964, but I think that should be 1961-1963.

I have seen an original 64 standard cab with 44K miles and it had the 2 piece perforated headliner that had never been changed. I thought 65 and 66 went to a non perforated headliner but wouldn't the size of the pieces all be the same regardless of perforated or non perforated?

1965/66 use the same headliners:

Body Style 81A (Standard Cab) use a non perforated headliner. Body style 81B (Custom Cab/Ranger) use a perforated headliner.

Here's the 1964 Salemens Facts Book pictures and both Standard and Custom cab show the 4 piece headliner. Never know what might have happened IRL.

So who has the four piece headliner for a 1964 Custom Cab. National Parts Depot, LMC and Dennis Carpenter are all showing the two piece item for 1961 - 1964, and a four piece item for 1965 - 1966.

That is weird. The first one is even non perforated by the look of the picture. I wonder if because it is an actual truck(note the two speed and parking brake) if that is the difference?
