rumbling noise

I have a 2002 F150 XLT extended cab 4.6 L V8.. Sometimes (intermittently) when coming to a stop, I hear a rumbling noise in my truck.. It does not feel like the brakes because they are operating normally and a mechanic recently told me my pads are fine. I have 51,000 on the truck. It almost sounds like when you have a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle tire. It doesn't do it everytime either..which is weird. Any suggestions would be much appreciated..

Hi and welcome to FTE
It could be a u-joint. I had one do that on my dad's Crown Vic, years ago. It started squeaking later, then I finally found the culprit.
This may not fix yours, but it's a good place to start.
