Hi everyone, this is my first time using a forum for this. It seems like everyone is very knowledgeable here so I'm hoping I can get some guidance. I've been doing some research and cant really find an answer. I have a 2008 f 250, 5.4. 130,000 miles. I store it for the winter and last year before I parked it, i noticed it was getting sluggish. I got it ready this year and it starts right up runs great, no strange noises or cel. I pulled out of the driveway and it took forever to get up to speed. Once I'm up to speed it will shift out of o/d to try and maintain speed and it does it constantly in and out. I dont think it's the trans. It doesnt slip and I've always kept up on servicing everything. it feels like I have a heavy trailer behind me. I've been reading about the intake manifold control valve. And it sounds like it causes similar symptoms, but it sounds like that should throw a code. I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem without a code. I'm also wondering if there is a way to test if this is functioning properly I reached back there and felt the arms while I had someone revving the engine and it had no movement but I'm not sure if that is because theres no load on the engine. Any other suggestions as well.
thanks! Look forward to hearing your thoughts!
If the engine idles smoothly, you might want to check and see if one (or more) of the brake calipers is stuck, since it is easy to smell after a short drive. Maybe syphon the fuel that's been sitting and add 5 gallons of fresh gasoline.
Check the exhaust for critter beds, as well as the air inlet box & tube.
Other than the above you are going to have to give us more info to go off of. Saying "my truck has no power" will yield 20 posts with 20 separate guesses.
Thanks for the response. The brakes are not dragging that was my guess too, I've had it happen before after sitting. I've checked for any blockages in the intake with no luck. For the exhaust I thought maybe a clogged cat. I crawled under tried to see if I could get it to rattle maybe I could hear if it came loose inside and blocked it up. Also there is no smell like a bad cat or rattling while driving. And the intake manifold control valve. By that I meant the actuator on the back of the intake that controls the linkages attached to the butterfly valves in the intake to control airflow. I've seen it abreiviated as imrv, cmcv. I'm trying to describe it as best as possible sorry for any confusion
thanks!
Ive checked the intake and its clean. After work tonight going to hook up the scanner and see what I can find. I'll be sure to check for exhaust flow as well.
thanks
Hooked scan tool up yesterday no codes at all. Was able to pull up live data. Ran it down the road and found a large hill. Watch imrc position ots stuck shut. Pulled intake off and replaced the actuator runs good as new. I'm very surprised something like that wouldn't show a code. Thanks for the replies.
