Question about headers for 460

So, put L and L fender well exits on my truck (1978 F250 4x4 w/460) couple years ago. Had an issue with them clearing the steering shaft. Had to cut the header up and reroute a couple primaries. So to now. Restoring the truck. Got new bigger primary headers. Mad dog fender wells. Cab is off, but mocking up headers looks like it will be about the same. Wondering about other people’s experience with this. Common? Or do I have something funny going on? Not interested in chopping these up. Going to have them coated and want them to look good and keep primary length consistent. Looks like maybe a combo of 1” body lift, maybe moving column up a little will make it work. Or maybe adding another joint to steering shaft. Just wondering what other peoples experience has been. Thanks.

So looking through the forum at old posts. Everything from fit fine to need a body lift. So I guess my question turns to body lift. Looks like I will only need an inch. Is this as simple as making one inch thick steel spacers and putting between bed/body and mounts? Anyone have experience on if that will make bumper spacing look bad? Anyone done a slight body lift that can comment? Thanks guys.

I am not sure about all steel spacers. I rather have some rubber in it or else you will feel the vibration. Look at your current body mounts...they have rubber (generally) to prevent alot of vibration.

Hockey pucks are about 1” thick.

Was figuring putting them on top of the new poly mounting bushings. I think it would be harder to find hockey pucks than cut some steel shims

I can't imagine why anyone would need a body lift to fit them ? My L&L's were nowhere close to hitting anywhere other than the fender wells. Maybe they can't figure out the inner fenders can be cut, who knows ?
Also, I can't imagine the steering shaft being in the way, but then again quality control is nonexistent in that company. I would have sent them back.

So back in the day, being young and not knowing any better, a buddy and I did the hockey puck lift. Don't waste your time. The pucks only hold up for a couple of months then you have more issues.

Yep. No hockey pucks. Seven month long project so far. Frame up redo, so not looking for quick fixes. Ordered some parts from flaming river to build a custom steering shaft to clear the headers. All in all seemed like the best way to go in the long run. Thanks for the replies.
