Just ordered the headers for my build, after looking at the fenderwells and chassis exit I went with the chassis exit because a body lift is needed or you need to trim the inner fender, but the part the concerned me the most was the steering shaft hitting the headers. I read on L&L site that a lift is required for the chassis exits too which didn't make sense to me because there shouldnt be anything in the way except maybe the front drive shaft. Anyway The only thing i'm concerned about is the driver side header comes really close to the oil pan, anyone that has these headers could you tell me what the clearance looks like there? I was thinking about wrapping the headers in header wrap, will it help or hurt anything?
I'm assuming that you are running a 460. Here's an old build pic of my 74 F250 4X4. The headers look close but they are no where near the steering shaft.
I was only worried about the steering shaft with the fenderwell exits, but sweet truck, is it lifted at all?
Nope. No lift. Factory height for now. There will be a 2" skyjacker kit in its future. Only cause its cheaper to buy the lift kit then to piece out the springs and all the little parts of the factory stuff.
I run L&L chassis exit on my 78 f250. 4" superlift, 60 front 460/c6. I noticed my front axle has hit the headers (Just grazed them) on the side. I do extreme offroading, hence the lift and 60 front, but I do wonder what clearence would be like with factory height. mine only hit in a severe flex. and didn't dent only rubbed. As far as the oil pan, I did a pan gasket and rear main with the headers installed.
so I guess the clearance between the pan and headers isn't as bad as it looks. I read somewhere about the driveshaft hitting the headers sometimes, have either of you had the problem. also looking at co425's pics these headers have think flanges!
once I get the installed I post some pics in my build thread

Could you tell me about that steering shaft you got there, where did you get it, who makes it ?
I have these headers on my truck. They run close to everything! The oil pan, starter, transmission cooler lines.....there is just not that much room under there, however I have had them on almost a year now and ....knock on wood...have had no problems with the clearances. Good luck!
