Hello Iam trying to do a tune up on my 2003 fordf150 4.2L 6cyl I wanted to know the firing order if Iam standing in front of the truck. Also the order for the ignition coil pack, does this truck have individual coils as well thanks...
There is a single coil in a rectangular shaped block above the passenger side valve cover. If you replace it get the motorcraft and not a knock off. Use only motorcraft plugs. The plugs replacement interval is 100k but if it's new to you there is no telling what the previous owner put in there or when.
You might want to replace your brake fluid too. I have seen 2 year replacement intervals for brake fluid but I think that is overly aggressive. Still, I bet your truck has gone a lot longer than that.
Ok thanks for that now if Iam standing in front of my truck firing order on the passenger side of engine will be 123 in a straight line then on the driver side will be 456 six and three will be last close to the windshield?
THE ..FIRE OREDER … >> IS NOT << THE CYLINDER NUMBERING ORDER.
Look at the chart provided to see the >>>FIRE ORDER.
If you don't, you will get into a mess.
Taylor , you have the right CYLINDER DESIGNATION ... 1-2-3 on the passenger side, 1 by radiator, 3 by the fire wall.......... then 4-5-6 on the drivers side.... Now you need to look at the FIRING order..... 1 4 2 5 3 6
If you are just wanting to change spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, or ignition module, here is a couple tips. Do not worry about the firing order. Do 1 plug and wire at a time. If you feel confident in taking a picture and working from that, do so. These motors have a distributor-less ignition system. They have a coil on the passenger side(left if you are in front of the truck) right in front of the valve cover. Unless you are planning on adding an MSD, Accel ignition system, stick with motorcraft replacement parts. They can be a few bucks more than a store brand, spend the few extra bucks. The firing order is irrelevant at this point unless your motor jumped time, or you are just wanting to learn all you can. Good luck.
