Engine Removal

After fixing rust holes in the truck it currently has no front end on. I want to pull the moter and fix some of the leaks. My question is will the 390 and the NP 435 come out together. It looks very tight at the trailing arms cross member where the trans would have to be angled down so the shifter area would clear the trans tunnel.

No they will not. Your options: unbolt cab and lift up a bit; unbolt gearcase from bell housing; grind rivets of crossmember and remove it then reinstall with bolts. The last one is generally preferred for future maintenance ease if your not worried about concours correct.

Nothing concourse here. The trans crossmember already has nuts and bolts and can be easily moved. With that removed will the engine and trans together clear between the crossmember where the trailing arms are and the cab.

No. You have to remove that crossmember. The one the tailshaft of the tranny sits on is not the crossmember I was talking about. I don't have a frame in front of me however, I am pretty sure that there is only the engine, radius arm (what you are calling the trailing arm) and transmission tailshaft crossmember. That one in the middle needs to come out.

You're right about that. I pulled the trans.
I going back in with a c6 that looks like it should fit with the engine.
Any thoughts
Thanks

I don't think it does. Back in 95 I put a 429 C6 into a 66 ( I cheated the body was off) and my trainer at the time says it won't fit with the cab on. My current 66 with a strocker FE and C6 ( it is good to cheat ) won't fit with the cab on if I recall my friend saying it didn't. Truck was at his place getting the cab welded up so he set it in before puttIng the cab back on the frame. You will find out if you try with them together.

We shall see. I'll probably do what you said earlier and jack up the cab since the bushing are being replaced.
Thanks

I pulled a 390/C6 combo out of my truck. The front clip was off so I hooked my lift to the engine and pulled them both as a unit. I can't imagine they wouldn't go back in together - at least with no front clip on. The converter housing is about 21" wide and the crossmember that Brad mentions - the second one back between the radius arm bushings - is about 22" wide at it's narrowest and since there is no tower on the transmission it slipped right out without angling it.
