My spare tire is loose on my 19 dually. Looked in owners manual to see how to either tighten it up or just take it down and put it in the bed of the truck. It says to use “ ignition key” on the lock on the bumper. My truck is a keyless. So I assumed the little silver keys that unlock the bed locks would work. Nope. Any ideas? Thanks.
Your key fob comes apart and there is a key there. This can be used for the spare tire release, door key and to look the rear seat in the down position.

As long as we’re on the subject..... An occasional shot of dry lube in that lock is a good idea. After a few years of rain, snow and road grime, that lock can really let you down when you need it the most!

speaking of that , the key worked great and easily able to lower the tire. Retracted the cable. Went to put the plug/ lock back in and could not for the life of me get it to lock back into place. It was extremely difficult to get the key back out of the lock. I decided to just leave the hole open. Lock was already kind of rusted and road grimey so left it out. I will try the grease method.

I had the exact same problem. My truck was booked into the dealer the next day for some warranty work so I let them handle it. They couldn’t get it back in so they replaced the lock. What a pain in the ***. I bet I tried for 30min before giving up.

correct! The plastic piece it goes into is so soft there is no way it’s going to grab on to the edge. Someone would have to push from the inside I think. I don’t plan on carrying my spare tire there so I’m going to leave it open.

That bracket thing that's attached to the end of the cable I dont believe will snug up tight to the underbody. It will rattle around no matter how tight you winch it up. Least mine did.
Take a 4" piece PVC pipe cut 4" long, run the bracket through the pipe then cinch it up. Like a mini spare. Paint it black if you're really serious

Thanks ! So far so good. It snuggled up fine. But if I need to I will take care of it.
