My "new" 2000 SD did not come with the key/socket to lower the spare tire. Is there anywhere besides the dealer to get this part (they want $45)?
Speaking of keys, can ignition keys be made anywhere or are they a dealer only item

Mine came with the spare tire lock key. You should be able to get a spare from the company that makes them for ford, as long as you have the key code......
As for the ignition... Your SD doesn't have the PATS key, so it can be made anywhere. IF for some reason you got the only SD with the chip in the key
, then you have two options, but you shouldn't have to worry about that...

If it didn't come with the truck, you should tell the dealer to give you one for free. It is included with the truck.
PS. $45 for a spare tire lock is no crazier than $20,000-30,000 for a pickup truck
