My wife has expressed interest in a new 20
Explorer. We’re looking at the 4 cyl EcoBoost XLT with leather and Awd. We’d be trading in her 16 Flex SE with the regular 3.5L. We’ve had 2 Explorers in the past a 92 and 04. Both served us very well.
I have yet to own any EcoBoost motor, being the 4cyl has anyone had real world experience with them? Mileage , maintenance any pros or cons over the 3.5L in the Flex? Best MPG we’ve seen in the Flex is 22.5 on the road from Ohio to Fla. it’s fwd.

Any other comments on the 2020 Explorer?
thanks!
I think you lose a couple of MPG with the AWD/4WD, if that is real important. We just bought the 21 explorer with 4wd and the smaller engine. Like you, have had Explorers in the past, when they were FWD, and they were great cars. Expect this car to be a good one, too.
I would have gone with RWD, personally, in our part of the country, but both new explorers they had on the lot were 4wd (one platinum and the other Limited - we got the limited). But might play with the different "mud" modes for driving. The sport mode seemed to be fun. Will have to play with it when the wife is not around.
We got the limited with the 2.3 eb. It is great good gas mileage empty 25-30. Longer highway trips 27-30. Around home and to work she gets 24-26 that's all highway driving. Towing our 4600 pound boat 11-16. Depending on speed and handles it great
