I recently had a radiator crack and an episode of overheating. Got that fixed and truck ran fine but stalled. The voltage light was intermittently going on. Had a new battery installed. Repeat episode. Mechanic said when they tried to start it the starter and the alternator where extremely hot. They replaced the alternator. No problems for about 300 miles. Then it stopped suddenly on the highway. Not fun. Mechanics were able to start it later after a long rest. They claimed it was some kind of glow plug issue. Politely told them I was doing 70 when it stalled. Concerned that the problem is a short? How do I tie in the super hot alternator and starter to this? Should I change the ficm harness? Any help greatly appreciated.
A glow plug problem will not stop the engine. Did the engine stop immediately or did it die slowly?
The DTCs are very helpful in troubleshooting. They are necessary for quick troubleshooting.
Glow Plugs? Tech was typical so-called "diesel tech" (90% out there claim this, roughly all of these are Chit-4-Brains).
Depends on which sensor you're talking about -- ICP, EOT, ECT are inputs to the PCM (base feeds display). If ICP, the system just goes "inferred", if EOT out of range, the system will then use / substitute ECT values for fueling / timing,.............it behaved like it was de-fueled by the PCM (abruptly) or other electrical issues.
