Mixing EFI computers
I have an 86 Ford bronco and it's ECU won't turn the fuel pump on. I tested the circuits and tried an 88 bronco ECU and that ECU engages the fuel pump when the key is turned on. The 86 ECU is painted over the sticker so I can't tell if it's High altitude, California, or federal emissions.
My question is can I use the 88 ECU? Or if I use one programed for 86 does it matter which emissions model I use? This bronco was ordered by LA district office and likely sold in Nevada and is in Nevada. Any way to know what ECU it was equipped with based on the catalyst?

Is there a calibration code sticker on the driver side b-pillar?
