So I’ve got a 2000 7.3 with 260k, with a whole slew of codes (over a dozen) mostly seniors receiving high input, oil, air, trans temp, etc. with the most predominant code being p1668. Truck is very hard to start, sometimes revs itself after started and has a miss at 2k and above. Would it be safe to assume I need a pcm or idm? And how do I know which?
Injectors being bad aren’t out of the question but I doubt they’d set off all these codes
I'd clear the codes and see what comes back after putting some miles on it. Most of them are prolly old and not relevant.
If the hard starting happened with cold weather maybe the glow plugs or GPR are bad. One check is to plug in the engine heater overnight. If it starts easier, then the GP system is not working right. Another idea is to bridge the big lugs on the GPR with a robust screwdriver. That will send juice to the GPs bypassing the GPR. Lots of amps there so be careful! Bridge it for 20 - 30 seconds. If it starts easier, then the GPR is likely bad. If nothing changes the GPs are likely bad.
Any mods to the truck? How long have you had it?
Still early in diagnostics here my man, don't get too hasty to throw expensive parts at it.

Had the truck about 6 months and totally stock. I haven’t gotten it running good enough to even put it on the road yet, an ipr, icp, cps, glow plugs, engine wiring harness, fuel pressure guage, fuel bowl rebuild, blah blah blah, everything you’d do to a truck that’s been sitting five years. Finally decided to give the wiring at pcm and idm one final look over and boom, 3 chewed wires. One signal return, one ground, and one exhaust valve wire. Going to fix them tomorrow and see what happens
