Possible Wiring Problem?
I got my first Ford truck (a 78 F100 Custom) last weekend. When I first got it it was perfect. Everything was working... but sometime between then and now my horn stopped working... and with it my high beams, and my brake lights/reverse lights/and parking lights. I've checked all the fuses. They appear to all be good. I was wondering if there is any common problem that might cause all this at once? I also don't have any dash lights. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Don't just look at the fuses pull them out and clean the metal ends and the holders DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!
They sometimes get a little funk on them and don't make good connections.
With the battery disconnected clean all cable connections at both ends of the cables.
If the cables are showing age just replace them because just looking at them you cant tell if they are good or bad. They go bad from the inside out.
The ground cable may go to the engine make sure it is clean and tight.
Also if you don't have one run a ground from engine to the frame (cable) and to the body (10 gauge wire will be good).
Look into a head light relay kit. LMC sells them but you can also find them on ebay or Amazon.
It takes the load off the head light switch and uses it as the trigger. Its a plug & play no cutting of wires and well worth it.
Do the fuses and cables and let us know how you make out.
If that does not get them working we can go from there.
