Has anyone had any luck installing 9007 BiXenon bulbs or even LED's where the retaining ring won't fit over the base of the bulb? I have a set of cheap single beam HID's from FleeBay and just don't like the light. It looks kinda thin as in light density so I bought a pair from Mirimoto. These are dual beam equipped with a fan housing like LED's have. The problem is, the retaining ring won't fit over the fan housing.
Has anyone encountered this either with HID's or LED's, and how did you get it to work? Thanks in advance....
How did you re join the two halves? As you can see from the photos, the base of the bulb is almost as big as the ID of the retainer. It won't go over the base especially with the cable exit. There might be other retention methods for other vehicles but for the F-Series headlamp housings, I don't see how it's possible to use the Murimoto bulbs.
Upon further investigation, I figured out. that the flange of the bulb base actually twists off allowing the retainer to slide over the bulb, then the flange re installed and the retainer is captured between the base of the bulb and the flange. That problem solved however, since it's a BiXenon or dual beam, I notice the bulb isn't fit firm in the base. It's supposed to actuate in-n-out for the hi-lo but it's a little wiggly in there. I'm wondering if the movement of the bulb is going to affect the stability of the light driving. Anyone know?
I figured out that the mounting flange on the bulb housing twists off therefore allowing the retainer ring to go on from over the capsule, the replace the flange. It's keyed and twists off and on. I didn't like the beam pattern of the bi-xenon so I removed them to return to Morimoto and kept the ballasts thinking's they'd be a better quality than the cheap FleaBay ones from X-Treme I think they were called. So now I have the Morimoto harness, and ballasts, and the X-Treme bulbs. The light is definitely much better. Quality ballasts I learned are the main thing. I'm unsure if I'm going to keep the cheap bulbs or upgrade. Need more time to drive and see. What a learning experience. I've also figured out how to wore in the legs in my Raptor style grill. I ordered a 9007 plug, male side to wire them to the unused headlamp connector. Perfect place since I want the less on when the running lights are on and their on when the headlamps are on. I never run the running lights without the headlights being on. I hope all this makes sense.
Led's in the grill wired in using a 9004/9007 plug that normally feeds the headlights. I didn't get a picture at night yet. I'll try to get one in the next day or so.
