Hi guys,
I'm trying to get the bumper off my 1969 camper special, but the bolts are extremely rusty. I have hosed them down with PB blaster a few times but cannot budge them. Any ideas?
Also, I'm trying to get the rusty bolts off the camper special mirrors, but again. frozen with rust. They have soaked a few days in PB blaster. What else can I try?
Maybe cut the bolt heads off and use a pin punch to pound the stud out? Make sure you’re cutting with the angle grinder pulling away from you (vs. pushing back) for safety! Then, time for new bolts.
I recently purchased an induction heater tool. It's expensive, but it's awesome. Works great on the types of bolts your talking about.
Best part is, it only heats the nut so you won't burn the paint on your door when working on the mirror as I'm sure I would with an oxy torch.
I just heat the nut for about 20 seconds, quick squirt of PB, and it comes right off.
Probably not much us on these old trucks, but it does a great job softening the loctite so you can get the buggers out.
