The oil truck I drive for work has one. Not entirely sure how it works, but the manual says its a flame start system. Its a 6 cylinder Cummins in a 95 Kenworth T300. Its been a while since I looked closely at it, but I remember something that looked like and injector or two in the intake. I don't know how the fuel is pumped in, or what ignites it. There is a 'don't start' light like our trucks that comes on with the key. On cold days when the block heater outlet either wasn't plugged in, or the outlet tripped the flame start will run for quite a while, maybe 20+ seconds? But it fires to life everytime!

I would defiantly like to see a 24V mod with a 4 battery set up as I'm trying to have mobile MIG Welding.
you can do some pretty good welding with a Lestek unit even certified for Marine and Aircraft... don't need 4 Batteries....
I'm waiting for the price of Ultra Caps to come down a bit too and plan on using a bank for starting... you could start even with pretty Flat batteries.
I'll be using 12 volts of the 24V Glow plugs .... I'm doing this mostly as an experiment in GP longevity as in South TX we don't need to super heat to start these trucks

I've worked on the 19L v12 air cooled engines myself non turbo... but we did have access to a couple of the V12 Bi-Turbo engines too along with the MTU engines.

and yeah, I guess while Cranking IF you injected Flame it would heat the cylinders BUT I think this would be better suited for larger DI type engines and not real good on a 6.9 or 7.3 ... they are already easy to do Either or propane systems.

I'll be darned, interesting, I used to work on Cummins during that era, but never ran into any with the flame start system, just the normal ether system. I Googled it and it says it's not real common but there's versions for everything from small car diesels to big truck engines.
