Not a major leak but trans has fluid dripping down from up top.
Ive gone after this twice now , pulled top cover and resealed with rtv sealant.
Can this leak actually be coming from gear shift ? Is it my understanding that the trans vents from the shifter?
I replaced the shifter parts on top of trans recently.
Id like to get after this 1 more time and fix once and for all.
Btw I have replaced the plugs that commonly leak.
I used high temp rtv for plugs, I used the black under top cover.
I believe I solved the leak... Back in the summer I put a new bushing kit for the shifter in. Old plastic gaskets imploded.
With the new kit came all new parts including the 2 pins that lock into shifter.
I discovered that the 1 pin on left had backed out about 3/16 and was distorted as I believe it is a soft metal.
I removed and kept the old pins so re installed those and put some rtv around the head of pin.
Old pins fit nice and snug.
Another lesson on aftermarket solutions fitting but not good quality.
will let dry overnight and go for a drive and see if it leaks.
The only flaw may be putting rtv black under the cover. The replaceable rubber gasket should be enough to seal without the rtv which may be causing the leak. ??? Are you using the rubber gasket?
I had no gasket so went straight rtv.
Im hoping the trans fluid doesn’t eat the rtv ?
When I took off initially there was no gasket just a silicone.
Your right I may have just caused myself some more work.
If the gasket is round and properly fits the gasket area and if that is what you have, I would get the rtv off and install the cover gasket which is the correct way. The three rubber plugs are the only place I have heard of a M5OD leaking. When I did mine if used plenty of rtv on those plugs after I cleaned every thing up. If you have any question about your gasket, post a picture and I can tell if it is correct. Sandy
Cheers will do, I don’t believe top cover is leaking, brake cleaned it, 3 plugs seem good, bushing kit pin was definitely leaking.
I did not remove top cover this go round.
If it is in fact leaking I will remove rtv and go w straight gasket.
Not sure if I made sense but when the gasket is installed in that channel around cover it didn’t seem like it was proud enough to make good contact to surface of trans.
Hence my liberal use of rtv.
