Rear bumper

Ok. I have 1 last part to purchase. Rear bumper. Its the contoured bumper. Lmc offers 2. One says 37.5 mount holes the other says 40. Where are they measuring from. The bumper bolts on top of the bumper? Or what?

IMO I'd measured where it matters....at the rear of the frame rails where you are going to bolt the bumper on. Do you have the special...well pretty much impossible to find and purchase (due to NOT being reproduced) mount brackets for said contour bumper?

ND says....D3TZ-17906-B .. Chrome Contour Rear Bumper-Use with 37 1/2" rear frame rails / Reproduced. 1973/79 F100/350 - 1978/79 Bronco.

33 1/2" width between the inner frame rails behind the cab:

----------
37 1/2" width between the inner frame rails behind the cab:

1973/79 F100 2WD/4WD & F250 2WD // 1973/79 F350 except as noted above // 1975/79 F150 2WD/4WD // 1977 F250 4WD from serial number Y20,001 (not a High Boy).

1978/79 F250 4WD // 1979 F350 4WD

It appears the 40" you speak of is for a Bronco if this is what your looking at on LMC

49-9542
CHROME REAR BUMPER PREMIUM
36-1/2" MOUNT HOLES STYLESIDE 73-79

49-9544
CHROME REAR BUMPER PREMIUM
40" MOUNT HOLES STYLESIDE &
BRONCO 73-79

No such thing as 40" width between the inner frame rails for any 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco.

49-9542
CHROME REAR BUMPER PREMIUM
36-1/2" MOUNT HOLES STYLESIDE 73-79

CHROME REAR BUMPER PREMIUM
40" MOUNT HOLES STYLESIDE & BRONCO 73 -79
As usual, LMC hasn't a single clue!

1978/79 Bronco uses a completely different bumper than 1966/77.

1978/79 Bronco uses the same contour rear bumper as 1973/79 F100/350's with 37 1/2" width rear frame rails:

D3TZ-17906-A Chrome & D3TZ-17906-B Painted .. Contour Rear Bumpers

But 1978/79 Bronco's use different bumper brackets than F100/350, because Bronco's have a rear stone deflector that the pickups don't have.

It appears that the measurement is where the bumper bolts go through the bumper and in to the mounting brackets. in the parts description, it tells you which one is for which rig.
