2003 F350 6.0 2WD. Just bought the truck on Sunday and the light was on. Owner said one battery was needing replaced. Drove it home, the light would go out and come back on..doing this on and off. Tues the truck started revving and jumping at red lights, thought maybe it was ICP. Bought 2 brand new batteries last night and red light went off and stayed off all evening, no more revving/jumping. This morning battery light came on went off and came back on for entire morning commute but no revving/jumping. Haven’t tested the alternator but looks brand new. Any ideas? Would bad batteries cause the revving/jumping?
Need to test your alternator first including the diodes. Battery or Alternator lights is an indication of alternator issues not a battery issue. What it means is low voltage output. Even new looking alternators could have been rebuilt and not done properly. There have also been brand new alternators that are defective.
A lot of clowns working at auto parts stores don't know what they are doing with the test equipment these days so time to do a little reading up on how to test them. It's not that difficult.
Sounds like the Alternator related issue. However, alternator issues can smoke batteries. Since you said you have a diesel, chances are you have 2 batteries in the truck. It is common practice to replace both batteries at the same time. Get the alternator tested. Look up an auto electric shop for your area. Most of the time, they will be able to properly test an alternator and usually offer rebuilding services. Big box stores can test them but I would not count on an accurate result. Similarly same thing with batteries.

I’m assuming I will get good readings until the “battery” light comes on. Right now it’s not on and with my truck running both batteries and alt are reading 14+ and like 13+ with headlights and AC on

yes I replaced both batteries since the guy I bought the truck said one battery was going bad.
Whoosh ... welcome to the FTE community. I had a bad regulator wire (regulator is located inside the alternator housing). See the link in my signature for my write-up. I had the sporadic lighting up of the battery dash light but DID NOT have the engine revving or surging symptoms.
Check the single wire plug on the alternator. My alternator was 19 years old and had 19,000 miles on it but the gauge showed battery and alternator were good. I replaced it with a cheapie bought online for 70 bucks. The battery light was still on so I fiddled with the single wire plug on the back of the alternator and the light is now off.
