7.3 IDI running issues

Recently did head gaskets in this rig. Has a real low idle. Smells like it is over fueling. Has this loud thumping/sucking noise through the air intake. Any ideas? Let me know if the video doesn’t post. Thanks.

did you remove the IP assembly while doing this job... IF so you probably didn't get the gears lined up right. Just my first Guess

This, you may also have some failing lifters

The fact you mention overfueling makes me think the exhaust would be blowing smoke of some kinda colour

I unbolted it and lifted it high enough to clean the rtv off it. I’m fairly certain I put it back the way it was. But would that explain all the symptoms I have?

Has quite a bit of light colored smoke. Smells of fuel pretty bad.

You need to take the round cover off of the front of the timing housing. Turn the engine over until you see the timing marks on the gears. Make sure they are lined up. If you lifted the housing there is a very good chance that the timing is off. That is were I would start.

If you remove the pump from the gear and cover so you can remove it, it will be out of time for sure. Plus you can't just look down and "see" the timing mark on the cam gear. And if you're referring to the IP to gear bolt access cover, no way you can see marks there either.

Mark, that's normal on any diesel because there's no throttle plates to isolate intake and combustion noise like a gas engine.
