I have been reading some of the older threads on lowering these trucks but didn't quite get the answers I was looking for.
I have a 1978 F100 SB 2WD and if I decide to keep it I am going to lower it and put some real power to it. Right now I don't a grand to spend on dream beams and all that so I have 2 questions:
Without the dream beams and without bending the stock beams, how bad would the tire wear really be? I would just do the beams on their own, but one of my stock springs appears to actually be bent so I have to replace them regardless.
I would not lower it with front springs only. You'll probably only get about an inch lower in front while that kit will give you 3-5 in back, so your front end will be higher than the rear.
I have dream beams on one of my trucks and I like them. However, if you are wanting to put a lot more power in your engine, you may want better handling, brakes, etc. Your best bet will be the crown vic swap. Probably cheaper if you are doing everything yourself. There are a lot of threads on that, so read up.

I wish I had the money for the nicer stuff, but we are trying to save for a house in a few months..so I am kind of trying to lower it cheapest way possible, even if it eats tires for a while as I rarely get to drive it....the power stuff will wait for quite a while as the 302 in it is about as powerful as a snail..lol...

X2 what Caravaggio2000 said
Save your money enjoy the truck the way it is till you get a house that do what you want to the truck.
I can see if you do the springs it work go thru tires and ride ruff and bottom out more, you just took away suspension travel with a shorted coil spring.
I can also see you starting this get part way thru and the other half telling you NO MORE on the truck!
So now it sits there not able to be used. Before you know it we will see it for sale on here.
You also said something about maybe not keeping it? then just sell it now and be done with it and after you get a house buy another project truck to build up.
BTW when the wife and I were looking for a house I told her it had to have a garage so I could work on projects I had already started.
She kept saying we can buy land and have a garage built. Well I knew that would never happen and said no to that plan, I got a nice garage!

I went with the DJM beams and dropped shackles and hangers. If you gonna do it, do it right. I didn't cut my coil springs either. In my on opinion, it rides better and handles better too.
