T4 turbo setup

I am interested if anyone has worked with a reputable mechanic in Oregon or anyone in Oregon (near Salem) who would want a side job to install a T4 and all the fixings?

2 of the bigger T4 7.3 guys are over there in the valley. Have you talked to them?

Irate Diesel and Obsesion (I think)

Thanks for the input, what is everyone's opinion on the Obsession kit?

If I were choosing between those two I would go with Obsession in a heartbeat...

@Markus Luukko installed one of these kits not too long ago.

Can you explain why you would recommend the Obsession kit over the Irate kit?

The main reason is because of the way the oil return line is designed. Other than that it is a toss up between the two and personal preference.

I have been told by at least two people I trust that the Irate kit is good, but the oil return line is a major pain in the ***.

So the installation is difficult, but overall performance is ok?

The performance of the various kits is going to be nearly identical as it is just plumbing, a plate, nuts and bolts. Take a look at the Irate kit oil return line and how it goes into a freeze plug in the valley.

I don't know about you, but I was not interested in putting another hole into the valley of my engine. The two people I trust that have installed the kit say it was good, but getting the oil return line right was a pain in the ***.

The Obsession kit, just like the CSD kit use the factory oil supply and return ports. That may not be important to everyone, but it was for me.

Again, performance is gained (or lost) in the turbo, not the pipes and clamps that are attached to it.

Sous, thanks for your replies, what do you think is a reasonable cost to have someone install a kit?

Well, I can not give you an estimate because I honestly don't know. If I were in your position I would see if Obsession has a shop or two they can recommend. Maybe get in touch with Clay at Riffraff and see if he recommends anyone.

Maybe go to the FTE chapter sub-forum and ask for a trusted shop.

Quality of work is more important than price in my opinion.

I installed my Irate kit and S366sxe back in 2009?

The freeze plug is no big deal, but fitment of the return oil hard line is a pita. I will likely have a hose made for this if I have mine out for some reason.

Thank you for your reply Jason. Irate is 20 minutes away from me and one of their employees can install it for me. I think I am going to go that route.

You will be pleased with the kit and definitely have to give us updates when you stop smiling and laughing at how well the engine runs.
