My 2017 F-250 Lariat is having some issues with the Apple Car Play lately. Sometimes when I plug my phone in (Apple) it will not bring up Carplay but will charge, and occasionally it won't even charge.
I have tried a new cable (helped a little?) but I'm starting to think it might be the charging module.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and if so, how difficult is it to replace the module in the truck? It looks like it should be fairly straightforward, but I haven't been able to find any instructions on how to do it yet.
^^ This one. I've experienced these mysterious failures that ultimately were fixed by using the branded cable. I have no idea why it would work one day and not the next but it seems to fail that way. I suspect something in the device updates triggers the failures.
Maybe a different issue but I noticed after I upgraded my phone, it wouldn't connect to carplay unless the phone was unlocked. Maybe it was always that way because I never used/liked the lock feature. Still don't.... Plug it in and automatically goes to carplay.

I'm having the same issue in my 2020, I think it's an Apple update issue.
I bought my 2017 used and the USB ports in the front cubby didn’t work, dealer replaced it on site and fixed issue. He said they keep them in stock because a lot of customers spill drinks into the cubby and it’s a perfect spot to just pour right into the USB ports.

Make sure you’re using the actual cable that came with your iPhone or a replacement / equivalent Apple “certified” lighting cable.
If you have said cable, try a Master Reset or the SYNC 3 system. Sometimes this will clear up weird problems such as the ones you’re having.
If the problems persist, you might need a new USB port module because they can and do go bad.
So I bought a new USB charging port off of Amazon and installed it this morning, or at least mostly did.
Good news is it seems to have fixed the problem.
Less good news, it is a slightly different form factor and didn't fit in the hole (slightly bigger). No problem I'll just take the guys out of the broken one and use it with the old case. That worked fine, except now there is nothing to hold it in the hole. What am I missing?
