I have a 1992 ford ranger and put larger wheel and a small lift on it. But now it seems super sluggish especially in 4rth and 5th gear. So I'm planning on changing the ring and pinion. What would you guys recommend changing it to from a 3.73?
I was afraid you were gonna say 2.3L. The truck will work better with 4.10 gears but don't expect miracles as that motor doesn't make much HP. You might be better off putting a different cam in the motor.
Yeah ha I know it's not a great motor but it's my daily fun truck so if I can squeeze out a little more then I wanna do it. It will be a better project truck in the future tho.
Swapping the ring and pinion is fairly involved and usually requires a axle alignment expert to make it work correctly. Usually, folks swap the whole rear end from another vehicle and trade in the old axle. See if a salvage yard has a 4.10 ratio they will exchange for your old axle.
