Hello so I finally purchased the truck(66 F100) and have ran into the first two issues
1. the fuel gauge doesn’t show a reading and I’m betting it’s on the sender unit is where the problem is at because it’s quite gummed up and corroded, and the gauge works when “bypassing” the sender unit, so I would like to know where I can get a new one. Some places I’ve seen have one of the same style but have a different ohm rating. Does the one on LMC work with the stock gauges?
and the next thing is:
The shifter sometimes gets stuck and I have to go under the hood and move the linkages with my hand to get it unjammed so I can shift. I don’t know what it would be that causes this (don’t know what to replace) so could somone name some parts to check that may cause this, the PO also replaced the rubber bushings down there last year so they are good. I think it’s a problem of slop inside the column, maybe with the plastic spacers?
also the shift lever in the cab is sloppy and I’ve read the “cup” may be work or some kind of pin in there may be worn but I’m still a little confused.
so if anyone could point me in the right direction with these that would be wonderful, and the truck arrives at my house tomorrow so hopefully by Tuesday or so there will be pictures of it
#2: Im betting its 3 on the column, yes?
my first one did so all the time. change the bushings along the entire shift arms. I think theres 4. huge difference.
Okay awesome! I’ll have to check what they look like when the truck gets home, I’m hoping that I don’t have to replace the spacers in the column, i think that’s a possibility is it not? As well as the shift collar?
I had/have the same shifting problem with my '66 with three on the tree. Most of my problem was due to the wrong retaining clips that attach the shift linkages to the column and transmission. A long with making sure that the linkages are adjusted to the correct lengths. It almost never happens to me now. You can buy replacement levers for the column or replacement bushings for the eyelets. I had a sender stop working and it was a leaky float. The float cost a lot less than a new sender.
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 8 = 800-543-4959.
CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 865 = 800-476-9653.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fuel sending unit float (C0AZ-9202-B) is made of two pieces of brass soldered together.
Solder breaks down, gas seeps in, float settles to the bottom of the tank.
Remove the float from the sending unit, shake it to hear if gas is sloshing around inside.
The float is available from Ford, repro parts sellers. There's a reproduction plastic float, but it isn't very good.
Float is the same: ALL 1957/79 FoMoCo vehicles w/gas engines.
In-Cab fuel tank sending unit is reproduced in China, it isn't very good either. It's the same 1961/77 F100/750.
GREEN SALES has 4 of the "supposed" NOS originals (D7TZ-9275-G replaced C1TZ-9275-K), but these may be Carpenter made in China repro's.
I have a couple more questions but first let me ask; on this forum can I ask multiple questions even if they are about completely different parts? Or do I have to start a new thread, other forums I’m on make us start a new thread. What’s the rules here?
