12 gallons of 15w-40 equals 15000 miles. So I change the fuel filter now and when it time to buy oil again, it's time to change the fuel filter too. How do you keep up with scheduled maintenance?
I did the oil at 5k so when the odometer hit a 10 or 5, the oil got changed. Fuel filter was every 15k untill I hit the next 100k, then it got changed early to keep the fuel in the 15's. I like simple math where I don't have to think too hard.
On my personal truck every 5k and fuel filter every 10k, and use the trip ODO (my OBS has digital) to verify im at 5k, haven't put miles on mine so im still on oil from early 2019. I did an oil analysis on 19+ year oil and came good as new just FYI! Dont be afraid of leaving oil in your engine for more than a year.
So, last night I got oil, fuel, and since I recently installed a new radiator and filter on water pump, I changed the coolant filter as well, just in case there was any contaminates in the new radiator. Is this what a 10,000 mile fuel filter should look like? Is oil getting around my injector O-rings? All but two injectors are original with odometer at 340,404 miles.
Man it's hard to say. I have seen filters look like that with no oil contamination. It could be dirty fuel. If it were me, I would monitor oil consumption very closely for a few days when you drive a lot. If you see it go down considerably, you have prolly found your culprit. O-Rings wouldn't be a bad idea with those miles either way. You can also check clearance on injectors, maybe do GPs while you are in there, and check the health of everything else.

We seldom (never?) see oil contamination in the diesel filter on stock SuperDuty trucks (no regulated return).
I tell everyone to change oil ‘on the 5’s (5k miles) and to change fuel filter when it needs it. In fact, that’s another good reason to install fuel pressure gauge. You guys changing fuel filters all the time could buy a gauge with the money you’ll save.
Before ya jump back with ‘I’m going over the top because it’s a good thing’, you should know that a ‘dirty’ filter stops more dirt than a clean filter....
If its a truck that is seldom driven, I’d be inclined to change fuel filter every couple of years and keep fuel tank FULL as much as possible.

rjdj1186, your next oil change is going to be expensive. Drain the oil, rebuild the oil cooler and have Extended Life Coolant (Red Stuff) on hand to go back in. Check your entire coolant system for leaks before rebuilding the cooler. Address any leaks while you have the coolant out. Double check for leaks while flushing the system to exit as much oil as possible. Then follow the instructions in this Forum to pour in the freaking high dollar coolant. It still pisses me off how much that stuff is. I used Peak Final Charge because that's all I could find. Maybe its (Final Charge) because I will not have to buy it ever again???

Everyone of my fuel filter changes have looked very similar to your filter.
~50,000 miles so far with no problem associated with fuel system or injector orings. I bought the truck with 75,000.
I thought I would throw this in the pile too. I changed my ICP, CPS, and EBPS the other night. For the last two days, I have very much enjoyed a much smoother idle and a fuel hand that appears to be dropping slower. All Motor Craft sensors from Riffraff.
I had black filters like that when my injector o-rings gave up. I changed out injectors for upgraded single shots, and I've not had a black filter since. My stock injectors had 258k on them when I retired them and their 16 year old o-rings.
