Symptoms: grinding when turning wheel sometimes and brakes aren’t boosting///just fully lost brakes and the pedal hit the floor. Have already replaced the steering gear and ps pump.
thankfully there was an escape area now I’m on the side of the road awaiting a flat bed.
Besides the new hydroboost are there any supplemental seals/ parts I should have?
Thanks
Thought for sure the stakes were going to get run over right place and time to loose brakes....
Upon further inspection there is also a large blowout on the Passenger side brake I think it’s a double trouble scenario also the hydroboost failed the kick back test where as the other 7.3 provides a kick back and much better braking power
the grinding occurs occasionally when turning the steering wheel at low speeds and then requires more that usual effort. At speeds over 10 it has never done that. To me the grinding noise was sounding from in front of me inside the engine compartment and a little in the passenger brake. It reminded me of when my friends Yukon needed a new abs wheel speed sensor and one of the brakes would not bite down hard and we could hear it just riding on the pad. My truck does not have any abs codes at this time. Once I start the job I’m confident it will be a stuck slide pin. Looking back over the past days a couple times I hit the brakes hard and the truck pulled to the passenger side which it had not done recently.
Unfortunately at this time I feel I will handle the brakes today and then have to deal with the hydroboost. Hopefully, the truck will be safe and that will be a project for next week. I never get a kick back in the pedal like on the other 7.3 when you start it and press down the pedal presses back against the foot. The other truck also really seems to bite down a lot harder onto the rotors.
I don't think the hydro boost can make the pedal drop. Since you're getting noise when you turn I'd suspect the pump more than the hydro, but maybe the hydro can do something to cause it. It could even be air in the lines. I've never had a problem, but many have reported having an issue getting them fully bled after a repair and I believe there's a TSB about it. As for the kickback, it shouldn't under normal braking. If you jab the pedal or press it with the engine off it'll do it. I don't know what your "kickback test" means.
