Haven't had any luck finding ball joints. Or rather having a hard time finding out which ones go where. Even the kid behind the counter and the parts house could only find one. I know for sure I have a few more than one. 82 f100 rwd, also, are those the same as an 85 f150 rwd? If not I may have to mix and match.
I was looking on rockauto. They want to know the GVWR of the truck and if it has power brakes or not. Apparently it matters on the lower joint, but not on the upper joint.
I don't know if this is any help or not, but the joints listed below are what I installed in my 1984 2wd. This is a screen clip from my Rock Auto order a couple years ago.
GVWR on my Cert label is 4800 lbs.
Kramer, just a few words of advice having just done mine, make sure you squirt a little grease in them before you install them because one of mine will not accept grease, now that it is under pressure. Also now is a great time to do tie rods and have an alignment afterwards. Adjustable camber bushings are also a good idea, although not necessary.
4700 lbs. GVWR with power brakes and stamped axle = 30.1D
4700 lbs. GVWR with manual brakes and stamped axle = 30.1E
5,000-5150 lbs. GVWR with stamped axle = 30.1E
30.1E same as 1981 from 8/81 & 1982/83 F150.
Ok, my 82 has the stamped axle and power brakes. I just swapped in the forged axle from the 85' also with power brakes. It looks like there is one ball joint connecting the tie rods, one holding them to the pitman arm, and those appear to be the same, then there are 2-4 in the the front knuckles, they look different between the two trucks, but I assume they are all four ball joints. Now all I get when I look them up is 2 lower required and 2 upper required. I assumed they would just be for the knuckles, but one of them looks like the ones in the tie rods. This is what I'm confused about.
There are only 4 ball joints, two lowers, and two uppers. I posted the Moog numbers for them above, assuming you're talking about the 1985 knuckles?
As for the other joints...they are part of the inner tie-rods. I should have the part numbers for these if you want them...I ordered all Moog stuff for my 1984 and changed everything all at once.
Ok, that explains part of it. but the ones in the tie rods are ball joints as well, but I can't find anything on them. So I guess I can readily find the ones for the knuckles but I can't find the ones for the tie rods at all.
See, I looked at tie rods, and they appeared to not have them. Will look again. It would be nice if I could find or make replacement boots, they joints themselves appear to be fine, just lost the deteriorating boot in the swap.
Well, I don't know what I was doing wrong, inner tie rods definitely come with the joints in them. But I did find some Dorman help replacement boots. So that'll save me a couple hundred bucks.

I just looked on Rock Auto and all of the inner tie-rods have the joints in them. I've never seen them without.
Energy Suspension makes replacement boots...might have to shop around a bit to get the right ones, I believe there are others (or were others at one time)
Thanks for that link, their prices don't look bad at all. Got them saved for future reference. Going to go measure to see if those are the right ones, four bucks for both is a great price.
