If someone has a PHC-A3 I would certainly be interested, thanks in advance for the help....

The TAG INFO ensures one gets into the CORRECT PARTS LIST in the MPC. It also ID's the TRANS so one can find the correct SPECIFICATION LIST/repair procedures in the TRANS SHOP MANUAL.
thank you, I know what the tag is, but wondering what the difference is between the a,a1,a2,a3
That is determined on how the TRANS was assembled and any upgrades through it's service life. You would have to go through the PARTS LIST/SERVICE SPEC LIST to see why and how. The APPLICATION CHART will give you usage for different applications. A1, A2 etc. is either describing possible service upgrades and/or application.
This trans was popular in the HP days and things like shift kits were readily available.
yes I have the application chart, what I am trying to figure out is what the difference was between the several modifications. looking for some more detailed info, I can not find the information that I am looking for
I don't know of any TECH MATERIALS printed on the FMX. Performance trans of the period were C4 and C6. The FMX was interim as FORD could not produce enough C4 or C6 to keep up with assembly. The FMX was heavier but had less internal drag as the C6.
The top performer was the later production C4 for the street and/or strip. The FMX seemed to have more favor with the Y-BLOCK crowd as it was an update over the FOM and COM.
Everything you want is in the MPC, WSM and TSB's of the era. I had one behind a 351CJ and it took years of abuse.
yes I am digging into that now, what I do know is that the FMX PHC-A was in 73 P350/500 the PHC-A1 was in 73-74 P350/500 , the PHC-A2 was in 74-76 P350/500 and the PHC-A3 was in 77 P500 and from what it seems all with the 300CI
Did you see this ILL in the MPC ILL SECT? Maybe it will help explain what you are looking for. The TAG ID shows the trans is for a 1977 P-SERIES with a 300 CID.

OP has the same post in the LARGE TRUCK forum, so he knows what the PHC-A3 TRANS is for.
What he wants to know is what's the difference between the PHC-A1 & A2 transmissions. Probably nothing.
