This thread is a "DAY OF" spin off from the thread "7.3 no start." Everyone is welcome, anyone can comment, hopeful no one gets hurt, and maybe everybody can learn something. My cousin and I are leaving this morning at 4:30 A.M. from Jonesboro, Arkansas to an undisclosed location in between Cabool and Willow Springs Missouri. Google maps says 137 miles and 2.5 hours. Hopefully at the end of the day rjdj1186 diesel truck is running or at least diagnosed. We will keep you posted.
The Dorman VC gaskets with integrated UVCH work fine, but definitely lower quality than Ford, Int’l and Alliant branded products.
That said, I’ve replaced a lot of failed ‘good ones’ with Dorman and only replaced Dormans (free, lifetime warranty) because I noticed the insulation failing or something when I was under VC for something else.
Dorman also cone with engine harness side pigtails, which we seldom need, but are super handy for ohming out injectors and GP’s through the VC’s.
on edit: pay attention to wire routing. Don’t let UVCH wires get pinched under VC gasket or chaffed by push rods.
Back on the road! Real life superheroes, those guys are. Thank you both so much. I have an injector o-ring job in the near future which they diagnosed as well as finding the loose inside valve cover gasket connector. Turns out my obdii adapter is crap, because Ajbrown208 hooked his up and got all the info. They replaced the bad one and schooled me on how to remove the injectors and glow plugs safely. And we still had time to shoot guns! They didn't stay for venison roast, wanting to get back home after a long day. I owe them big-time, and hope they call me with a way to repay them their kindness and generosity.
here are some pics. The diesel superheroes with my son in front of his "monster truck". The diesel superheroes enjoying some well earned R&R. And they're good shots, too. New gasket going in. The culprit.
