1994 F350 XLT crew cab, front power windows, rear manual windows
The front passenger window has stopped working. Using either the driver or passenger controller gets no movement or even sound of the motor engaging.
It does seem like I remember this window being a little finicky lately, when you would press the button you might have to help it get started,
also, the driver side control panel is not attached to the door panel anymore, the screw stripped out and it just sits in the opening loose,
Hi, with the 2 idi's I've owned it has been the motor every time. Done that repair 3 or 4 times.
Once you get the panel off there are 3 dimples exactly over the screws that hold the motor in place. If it has never been replaced before you will need to drill holes thru the dimples. It will have already been drilled if it has ever been replaced before.
Hope that helps.
Scott, Norm is correct that you may have to drill access holes to remove the power window motor if it's the OE one. Once you remove the power window motor you can rebuild it and use 6 1/4" x 20 nuts to replace the plastic gears that come apart in the motor. Good luck!
at least you can buy the Gear kits if you need them, I had to 3D print a couple about 6 years back and that was a PIA I did them for VW too there are files on Thingiverse now but were non existent back in the day when I needed them but Gear Generator Plugin for Solidworks works Great.
as the guys said, 95% of the time it is the motor.
i had a few come in with a bad switch, but that was very rare
Yeah and Generally what happens is the Motor is Pulling excessive current and this is what causes the switch to fail.... bad connections also cause High current draws
I did this one a few months ago on my truck. When I bought it, neither window would go down. I was thinking surely it couldn't be both motors failed. Well, they both did. Pull the motors out and bench test them with some alligator clips to your battery. I was able to find AC Delco replacements on Amazon for ridiculously cheap.
Mine were getting slower and slower so I broke down and finally pulled both trim panels. Rather than motors going bad, all the regulator and gear grease had the consistency and lube quality of modeling clay after so many years. Cleaned and relubed the mechanisms and still going strong.
Once I saw a guy with manual windows and he chucked up a cordless drill to the shaft, talk about the best of both worlds
Worse yet, long time back, a guy pulled into the shop I worked in with an ancient beat up long nose Peterbilt from about the '50's or 60's and he actually had one of the doors held shut with vise grips. I felt sorry for him, he was at least trying to make a living but he seemed to always haul nothing but bales of scrap cardboard/paper. Probably didn't pay very well.
i was able to unscrew the motor but cant get the arm released from the rail the window sits in,
any tips to disconnect the rail and remove the motor ?? the videos and other instructions seem to gloss over that and just show the assembly being pulled out,
