I could clearly see that you were mistaken, even through that filthy screen, through those things with all those green things on them, and without my glasses. (more Vinny)

I've price checked different size jugs at Walmart, and not just those on the shopper's and employee's chests, and sometimes it costs less to buy the smaller ones. The 5 gallon pail being the most frequent offender of being more expensive than buying several 1 or 2 gallon jugs. Last time I checked the 2 gallon was about $.20 cheaper than two 1 gallon. In other brands where they offer a 1 and a 2.5 gallon it's about the same, and sometimes more expensive to buy the 2.5.

5qt = 1 us gallon

I bought another one, BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT.....I got a new problem...one is relatively easy to solve, I just need a oil filter strap to do the job....the other.......well not so much....the oil cap seized into my oil filler tube and literally disintegrated in my hand so now the plug piece that keeps oil from spilling out is stuck in the tube with no way to back it out, tube looks fine, super oily and greasy so yea....kind of need ideas and help getting this unstuck....why is it these quick projects always take longer then planned.....

The oil fill tube itself will unscrew from the valve cover.

Remove the tube and attack the cap after that. Buy a new cap and reinstall.

Yes. And watch when you do that. There is an o ring between the tube and valve cover. Some how on my truck I damaged the o ring and a piece fell thru the hole when I removed the tube. I had to fish it out of there.

Old but not brittle injector o-ring is a good replacement for the oil filler neck.

well trying to get the stupid oil filter undone and it be stuck on there like glue, im sure its because its been on there at least a year (truck has not been driven much), so got to figure out an alternitive way to break it off (any suggestions? I am thinking some how drill it and use the biggest bit to twist it)...as for the oil filler tube I have it cleaning up and then will try attacking it, I ordered a replacement filler cap and tube from Riffraff just in case I some how manage to break it. Better safe then sorry...hey for $12 for both I figure I might as well have them on stand by, I know I need one so best to have both and send what I don't need back then to not have it and break something

Jaime, when my oil filter seemed "glued on" and I couldn't budge it even with a rubber banded oil filter wrench, I used a chain oil filter wrench on it. The chain wrench started to crush the filter housing a little but it did work in the end. You just have to keep rotating it up and down the filter as to not collapse it entirely. If you buy one, don't get too thick a chain as there is not that much clearance between the filter housing and the oil pan. Good Luck.

When I first bought my truck and changed the oil for the first time the filter was not budging. I tried metal strap wrenches, rubber strap wrenches, large pipe wrench, putting a hole through it and a large screwdriver, everything and it just was not coming off.

I ended up getting a "large filter wrench" that looked like it belonged in the war zone of Afghanistan from Advance Auto to get the filter off.

It looked similar to this one, but more robust.

Since then I have been a big fan of the K&N oil filters because they have a 1" nut welded to the bottom. If you plan ahead and order online or use coupons from the parts stores, they can be reasonably priced.

I have one of these oil filters on each of our 4 current vehicles. With the K&N filter and a Fumoto drain valve, oil changes are quick and easy. This setup works very well for us when we are traveling long distances like 10,000 miles or more. I can change the oil in any of our vehicles with a 1" wrench, funnel, filter and oil.

I realize that a lot of people hand tighten filters and have been doing so for decades. That works for them and this method works for me.

I too have a pair of rock solid Channellocks like the one above ... medium sized and big honking sized. Even the big honking one couldn't loosen my oil filter which drove me to use the chain wrench. For me, I think it was less of a power/leverage problem than it was a sustained grip/pressure on a slippery filter housing problem.

You wouldn't happen to have the K&N filter number that you use for your truck would you? I like the 1" welded nut idea also

as for the filter wrench, I did use one of those, I took it back to the parts house, as all it would do is slide around the outside housing of the filter scratching it up but not grabbing...

I something similar to that oil filter wrench, Sous, but mine is a lacking type wrench (think Channellock) and it is definitely my go-to solution for difficult oil filters. In fact, I just use it exclusively just in case the filter is more difficult than I anticipate (one less trip back and forth from under the truck to the tool box.

HP-6001

I get them on sale from Amazon, online parts stores with 20-25% off coupons or in store with rewards points.

They can be bought discounted pretty good off the retail price. Sometimes I buy 2 or 3 at a time if there is a multiple count coupon.
