Does this look right? Seriously. Came to me like this and seems to have the proper stands in place. Thinking either stands are located wrong or the 'insulators' are in wrong engine bolt holes. Thoughts appreciated.
Rebuilt engine needs to slip into the proper position.
Have some pics of the bay without this block that I will put up later.
Really scratching my head here. What might be amiss here? another view
Thanks WJ, yep have seen that and it is helpful. Something is still amiss here though. My difficulty is that the disassembly was done without me! Doesn't look right though, no? Sure to be something simple, maybe someone can spot it for me...
Couple questions. Was this the original motor from the truck? If not the the perches may be from a 302, FE or I6. Or the motor mounts came from a different vehicle. Check your VIN tag to see what motor came in the truck. Maybe just need to change the motor mounts. By the way I would expect a rebuilt block to look clean not decades of grease caked on it.
Where are the FE MOTOR Mounts which are located on the engine perches? You need to attach them to the perches. Part #6038 https://www.fordification.com/tech/i...ginemounts.jpg
FE and Six engines are the same. 302 and 351M/400 are the same, but are different from the FE/Six perches.
Hard to tell from the pictures but two possibilities are that the left and right rubber mounts might be swapped incorrectly or you have the passenger side bracket in the wrong holes. See if you can move the right perch/bracket back one set of holes which should at least get the motor parallel to the frame. It is easy to get the rubber mounts backwards/upside down. Do a quick google search on FE truck engine mount orientation and you'll find some pictures of the correct orientation.
Hey guys, appreciate the replies. Good ideas. The engine pictured is the original engine to the truck, a 360. The replacement is a 390 being built now. Those blocks are the same, of course, so fitment should be identical. The 'mounts' are on the block and possibly have been mixed up through the years or on the re install when getting ready to be delivered to my place recently. The passenger perch could be in the wrong holes, so I will play with that idea and see if the alternate holes will work. Pretty sure the perches are the original ones to the truck, so that should be the only possibility there. May just order some new 'motor mounts' and compare with what's on the block and see whether they are the same, cause that could also be the problem. Not sure if there is a way to get the motor mounts wrong on the engine? Its my first 390, so not familiar with it very well. Will also search for more pics of the correct fitment, that should have occurred to me ........
Will be sure to take some detailed pictures of the perches and equalizers (motor mounts), when I get this sorted; as well as some pics of the engine in its proper position.
Looks fine if you're only going to make left hand turns....! I believe there are two sets of holes in the frame for the engine mount brackets. It looks like your driver's side bracket is in the rearmost set of holes and doesn't match the passenger side. Pretty sure, the forward holes are the ones you want to use.
I'm not sure what you guys are seeing but that motor is just laying in there up against the firewall. Not even sure there are motor mounts. On the driver side where would you put the oil filter adapter.
resonateur, that makes more sense than anything so far. Are the holes for the mounts round? Asking because the next 'hole' back on the passenger side is squared off, which doesn't look like an alternative to me. So, maybe it is the driver side that is too far rearward. Will check that out tonight.
Also, in the pictures, the motor is sitting on its mounts, or 'insulators', so it is in the position the brackets impose it to. Some of the trucks used a horizontal oil filter adapter, I think. Anyone know about the 69' F-250's in regard to this? The engine destined for this truck came with a vertical oil filter adapter, but it could be an engine from a car, as I do not know its history. Would like to source the proper adapter for this installation; not sure which it will be till the motor is in place or it becomes evident otherwise....
thanks for the replies!
will keep after it - getting the radiator and fuel tank prepped and misc. other stuff prepped in the meantime....

Reason: clarity
There are two sets of holes that the perches will line up with. The forward set of holes is the position of the perches for 6 cylinder motors the FE applications (same perches) use the rear set of holes. The pictures in this link show the holes in the frames on both sides. The FE perches mount in the A positions on the frame. The A positions are also used by the small block perches. Once you get the perches in the correct location you then need to focus on the rubber mounts. There are left and right mounts that can be be incorrectly swapped right to left or even upside down. If you do a google search for correct motor mount orientation you will find some photos of how they install.Comparison Photos of Engine Perches - FORDification.com
Hey GP, that is helpful. Had looked at it and was confused by the 302 labeling, appreciate the clarification. Not sure what to think about that squared off hole, which should have been used originally. Will reposition the perches to see how they look installed per the pics.
That is surely some of the problem.
