Yeller....I do believe that you can use the square hole....that's my recollection. I know it would fool you otherwise. You should be able to tell by marks on the frame, the original position that the engine brackets were mounted.
Will bet that you are right about that resonateur. In this case the frame has been painted with a thick black brush on paint of some sort so that the wear or scratching marks are not visible for clues. Did not have a chance to mess with it last night as planned.
This was a stalled project that was purchased for completion or restart of a restoration. Same reason for the likely additional mysteries forthcoming...... Don't ya' just love a challenge though?
It'll make a good truck by the time its done. Starting with very minimal rust; all I've found was under the battery tray, and its been remedied. Working inside the cab while the engine is being built, and cleaning up the bay area for paint and conversion to power steering before the engine goes in.....
I'm not sure what you guys are seeing but that motor is just laying in there up against the firewall. Not even sure there are motor mounts. On the driver side where would you put the oil filter adapter.
Happened to have my truck on the lift yesterday finishing up the install after rebuilding my C6. This is what it should look like (but prettier when you are done.)
Those are very good detail shots, thank you jfmaz!
Sure mine are the correct brackets now. You know of any 'best' place to source the insulators or motor mounts??
I see that you have the horizontal oil filter mount. Looking for one myself as my engine (to be) was an automobile engine.
Appreciate your reply, sir!

!
Not sure where to get the adapter, it is a stock item - maybe wrecking yard? I always wanted to change it to a vertical mount because when you change oil there is virtually no good way of taking it off without making a huge mess - oil all over the cross member. Maybe someday>>>>>>>>>>>>
No pics to show right now, but the passenger bracket was too far forward, as many suggested. There were more lower holes underneath it's too forward position, so when bolts were out, it was pretty evident that was the case. Using the 'square' hole on my frame top as the rear most position. Engine should fit right in now. Pics of before and after when I get my isp back...
Here we go! Bolt positions were simply wrong. Maybe put some grade 8 bolts in there after the first 50 years. This is how I got it. Here with the passenger bracket shifted to the rearmost holes. Looks like its ready for that rebuilt 390 now. Anyone know whether that far bracket will accommodate a power steering box? Time to get to work on that firewall cleanup. Need to finish the preliminary work while the bay is open.
