Okay so last summer my shift tube in my 2000 F-350 Super Duty broke. Upon disassemble in the column I managed to break the key off in the ignition drove it like that all summer with the cable sticking out the front of the dash. Because the shifter never got but back to park there's nothing was never turned all the way back to lock no problems. So I repaired the shifter and the cable and the ignition got turn to the lock position uh oh. I have since drilled the lock out and I have a couple questions. There is like a a cross shaped piece on the end of the cylinder that actually actuate's the switch how can I get those two pieces of the cylinder apart? See pic. I can't get a cylinder right away but I do want to be able to use the truck is there a way to go about still being able to actuate the ignition without that piece where can I get those two pieces apart and use the inside piece to turn the switch?
Use a flat blade screw driver as a substitute for the key cylinder---just carry proper vehicle registration and personal ID at all times in case you're stopped by the police and they see that jerry rigged set up.
High quality OEM ignition lock cylinders can be found on eBay from this seller: Ford Lock Cylinders
I tried a flat screwdriver in there and I'm still a piece in there that's keeping me from being able to turn it that way it would be the Green Piece in this photo
All the lock cylinder did was turn the piece that you are trying to turn with the screwdriver. So something else is up. Is this a manual transmission truck or a automatic?
Have you tried a local parts store? I just looked your truck up on Autozone and they sell the whole lock cylinder with a new key. $71.49 for a transponder type key system and $28.99 for one without a transponder key system.
You'll need to drop the column and see what's happening with the parts associated with the green part you're dealing with currently. As Franklin2 says you have other problems a new lock cylinder won't cure. Chances are the lock cylinder broke due other failed parts inside the column.
When I peel the collar off of the column I was sitting at the gas station at the pump it was a busy and I broke the key off in the ignition I've been driving it since last summer yes using the start on and off position the shifter was in actually lo1 whatever show me I never got turned back to lock well I repaired the shift tube put the cable back together put it in park turned it back to locked and it was locked so I drilled is the ignition out I have the tumbler out guess there's a piece in there that the Tumblr goes through then it turns something on the backside of that
