which sensor sends a signal to the FICM to energize the glow plugs , truck is a late 04 ICP in valve cover, new glow plugs, harnesses and control module. Running 5-40 synth, starts great when plugged in , long crank with 6.4 starter till it fires off runs ruff for a second then smooths out
The PCM activates the glow plugs by communication with the GPCM. Primarily oil temp dependent, but PCM also looks at battery voltage, and Baro according to the PC/ED.
Oil must be 131*F or below for glow plugs to operate. Above 131 *F, the PCM will still bulb-check the Wait-To_Start light.
Its posts like that ,that learn me everyday. I assumed they were always warming when the light was on, just timing out sooner or later- temperatures depending
so is the PCM part of the FICM or is a separate box and where is it located, I just put in a new oil temp sensor when I did some work and fixed a leak not one of 3 dealerships could find when the truck was new.
The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) contains the ECM (Engine Control Module) and the TCM (Transmission Control Module), The PCM communicates with the FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module), which is a separate module. The PCM sends the FICM the appropriate engine parameter data (from sensors as well as calculated parameters) necessary for the FICM to properly control the injector operation.
ok I change the GPM , now to check the PCM connection so many abbreviations, so you southern people don't ever use you PCM especially in southern Florida.
The Glow Plug Control Module is abbreviated GPCM, the PCM is the Powertrain Control Module. It, the PCM, will tell the GPCM when the glow plugs need to be on.
It is used on every cold start (unless the oil temperature sensor is bad and reads over 131 *F. It may not be 100% required on 40* starts, but it helps.
As always Sean keeps us in line with correct terminology of our conversations with these beasts. Thanks Sean
Now as far as cold, this 6.0 is in N. Fla....35° this morning. Not something we like.
Yah well truth be told there are 4 really smart guys when it comes to the 6.0's. You know who you are. I will say for me and most that follow this forum, thanks for the knowledge!!
