have a 2003 f250 5.4 gas regular cab rear wheel drive no 4x4, and it has the worst deathwobble you have probably ever seen, the slightest bump can set it off only at 25mph even on some occassions the engine itself can trigger it with a hard shift, used to be able to turn right slowly correct steer to the left to fix it or speed up over 70mph for it to stop now its gotten progressively worse and even deathwobbles at 90mph and i dont want to buy a new truck,
does anyone have any videos that i can look at to fix this or how much it would cost to fix myself and what all i would need? im around the austin texas area.
The folks that know about this kind of thing don't usually frequent the "New Member Introductions" forum. You might might want to post in the "1999 to 2016 Super Duty" forum to get some answers flowing.
what kind of front end work? estimated cost? i saw a 12 piece kit for $131.96 for the steering and front suspension, is that all i would need? and the tools to do it with?
It will need whatever components are worn to be replaced. We have no idea which components have excessive play on your truck. If you don't know how to check you should not be doing this repair.
If you're the type of individual that would rather throw parts at a problem until the wobble is gone (or until your wallet is empty, whichever comes first), replace the following:
track bar bushings (or the entire arm)
upper & lower ball joints
tie rod ends
control arm bushings
shocks
steering damper (LAST)
i took it to a shop to get it looked at and they were a bunch of overcharging mother truckers, i forgot what they said, but generally the link from 1aauto will fix it, just didnt include the shocks and steering dampener, going to take it back to a different shop to see what they say and if the price is right or so i will probably just get them to fix it, or if they decided to be some overcharging punks i will do it myself for considerably less, thanks for those last parts.
and why is that? if i have all the tools to be able to do it myself and its just one of those parts bad your right, i might be able to do for even less
just got it re-looked at, and the front steering linkage is loose somewhat, but the main cause is the, right side i beam bushing,
sounded like i wouldnt really need to touch the front steering linkage it would just be a good idea to, replace it,
anyone have a ballpark price range for what all is involved to just replace the right side i beam? any how-to videos?
Personally, if it were me, and my truck, I would be sourcing ALL bushings and grommets, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. using QUALITY parts, not the cheep china chit.
As far as price goes, google is your friend. Yup, quality is going to cost more up front, but do it right and you will love yourself for it!!!
didnt think that 1Aauto link was from china, saw the exact same kit from moog for like $750 or something, but it also included control arms, im just trying to kill the deathwobble, and as long as the truck can last be at least another 2-3 years so i can fully build my project truck thats all im looking for,
got quoted $1800 from one shop and another said they could get it all done up for $1100, i got my income tax coming in sometime and make over a grand a week at my job, so i could do the $1100 no problem,
im just not trying to be overcharged by some losers, the parts dont seem all that expensive and i got all the tools and lift to do it myself, just weighing options, thanks for all the input
