92 300ci e4od torque converter
What is the best torque converter for a 92 F150 300ci E4OD?
My nephew's truck has stopped moving under it's own power (tranny has no gears regardless of which gear it is in). Truck stalled going up hill & would not restart. I get there about a half hour later and we towed it (about 1000 yards) to a local shopping center parking lot to get off the road & out of traffic. After that, the truck started so we replaced the ignition module because I've had them cause no start when warn but have start after cooling off. After replacing the ignition module, I left before he did. He called me shortly after saying the truck wouldn't move like it was stuck in neutral. We check fluid level (nice red in color, doesn't smell burnt) & shifted the gears at the transmission with no success. He had the truck transported home by rollback.
I talked to a local transmission guy to come to the conclusion that the transmission had to be removed (done this yesterday).
There is a piece with splines inside the torque converter that turns / spins with any resistance causing me to think the problem is the torque converter. Transmission was replaced prior to him getting the truck with 1 from a F250 (assuming these are the same transmission). Torque converter had to have been replaced because it has shiny paint on it.
What are your thought? I read an old post that @the builder gave in put about using torque converters with a billet cover and a bearing under the hub. Not sure if he is still on here.
