Where does everyone have their CB antenna's mounted. I cannot find an under the hood mount for the 92-96, if anyone knows a good site where I could find one, I'd appreciate it.
we have three rangers, 87, 92, and 03, and all CB antennas are mounted on the left side of the hood. Brands, i could not tell you, but the bracket is simple.
i never have heard of under the hood, but you can mount a cb antaenna anywhere...magnetic mounts, window mounts, mirror mounts, mounts that have many other options, like in the bed...just about anywhere
True that you can mount it almost anywhere but, you want it centered or rearward for best performance. The vehicle actually becomes "part of it. You will get an oval pattern range extending outward from the vehicle depending on antenna location. If you mount it on the l/r your pattern will extend mostly to the r/f. If you mount it in the center of the vehicle, you will have an equal pattern around it, and if you mount it forward your pattern will extend mostly behind the vehicle.( not as good for traveling if you want to hear people in front of you)
I hate the magnetic mount, I'm just looking for an online store to get a mount that i could put preferibily on the hood.
What exactly is a Mark Mount? the only reason I don't want to put it on the bed is that I have a dimond plate rails so I'm not sure how that would work, I'd probably have to take a porition of that off.
A Mark Mount is a mount used as a base. You screw the antenna in the top, and the coax in the bottom. It is a little more stable than the little ones sold at truck stops. I will see if I can find a pic of one for you...
I saw a few different stake hole mounts at RS the other day. I find the smaller towns have the best Radio Shacks. The one I went to had Wilson and lots of other brands. Made the cheap Realistic stuff look, well, cheap.
I like front fender mounts using NMO base with Larson whips. It's a good compromise with the ease of install and no holes in the roof, (although, middle of the roof is the best place, LF fender won't make THAT much difference if it's tuned). I just can't get into mag mounts. Just not sanitary enough. I'm only running 4 Watts and there's no way to run a high gain antenna on my rig. I get a kick out of all the advertised, "high power," antenna's out there. Like anyones going to run 3kW on their mobile. I'd have to see it on the watt meter and have a look on the spectrum anaylizer. If the feedline is RG58, don't waste my time. Unity gain is unity gain, whether using 18ga wire or copper water pipe.
