Sorry for the click bate but this is the strangest thing I've seen on a truck. Maybe its more common than I am aware of. I'm buying new shocks but just wanted to check and see if this is something others have seen.
I bought an 04 EXC last spring down south and have been doing some maintenance as I daily drive it. Last summer I pulled the front shocks off as I expected them to be shot but found they were KYBs and they were surprising strong. So I drove them through summer and fall.
When winter hit they immediately became somewhat useless. Front of truck bottoms out on bump stop at the slightest pot hole or frost heave.
Is this normal when shock gets older?
I'm replacing them shortly regardless but have just never experienced this before.
shocks fail,
when they do fail it is usually a sudden occurrence because either a seal is holding pressure or it is not. sorta like being pregnant. it is a yes or no situation.
time of year had nothing to do with it.
unless of course we are talking 40 below and you start jumping curbs without getting the shocks warmed up.
Yep had that happen on a couple of vehicles over the years. Shocks or struts seemed to be fine when the weather was warm but as soon as it got below freezing they would almost lock up and stiffen or the opposite where they do nothing. Time to replace
