We have a 1995 F150 5.8L engine with 4EOD and as we were coming back from town today we noticed a very strong wire burning smell. So we hopped out and took a look saw nothing so we continued on home. On our way we noticed the tranny shifting very hard from 1st to 2nd and the odometer and speedometer had stopped. So we got home and I got on here and did some reading, yes the #18 fuse was toast, but #8 was good, so we replaced it. The odometer starting working and a couple seconds later it quit again. Pulled good ole #18 fuse and it was fried again.
Now my question is what do y'all think this is and how do I go about fixing it. We depend on ole "Lucille" to get us to work and home so this definitely needs to get fixed my Monday. We have all the service manual books and we can't not find a thing in there on how to repair this issue.
Any and all help is appreciated and the quicker the better.
Wow Dana, that's a bummer. I can't help, but am subscribing to the discussion so I can see what others have come across. Have a '93 myself and don't want to get caught unawares.
Good luck. And welcome to the FTE forums too. Hopefully help will be here straightaway.
First thing you should do is pull codes. There are several videos floating around that explain it. I'm still at work and cannot look it up right now. Second I would do a visual inspection for burned wires/connectors etc.
