I'm sure they will make tons of horsepower at extremely high RPMs. Just like truck owners want right? It will be interesting to see what they throw out on the table though.

The rumor I hear is for a Dodge 7.1L V10 "Hemi" to replace the old 8.0L V10. This engine will have the same cc's per cylinder similar to Ford's modular 5.4L V8/5.8L V10. Supposed to be in the 400hp/500lb-ft range.

If you're worried about Dodge jumping too far ahead of Ford, the new 3v Triton V10 should be out by then. Not that it matters to me what Dodge does-they're always 2 steps behind Ford and GM anway in my book!

how is Dodge a step behind when Ford just came out with a new model F150 topping out at only 300HP? Chevy has a base V8 engine of 270. If you remember back in 94 when Dodge "changed the rules" as much as I'd hate to say it, they really did. After that Ford and Chevy were rushing to make a new model but it took them both another 3 years to catch up. I would not be surprised to see Dodge come out with these engines because they're V10 made Ford and Chevy rush to make one of those too...So why wouldn't Dodge jump back on top since right now they don't have a V10 out?

dodge will always be a couple steps behind ford and chevy...always, no matter if they stick with their underpowerd small block 360 or if they go with their new hemis, which by no means, is the best truck engine. it will be suited better in a muscle car... the numbers look good on paper, but for a truck, that power that is advertised is usually never used... also, in my opinion, their quality is down compared to ford and chevy, most people you ask will tell you the same thing, transmissions for example are really weak....

also, in most cases, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and ford and chevy are generally equal in prices, yet you can steal a dodge for several thousand less....

every diamler chrystler/dodge/jeep product i have seen has has some pretty serious problems in their relitively short life.

2001 jeep grand cherokee rearend gone at 47000, rear brakes, complete replacement at 50000. all highway miles... driver window just fell into the door at about the same time.

1999 1500 dodge ram, 3 inch lift, 33x12.50 tires.. constantly overheated.... axle bearing always going out replaced 3 times in 10000 miles.

my 92 ford bronco has never given me problems... here is the list of parts i have replaced...

twin traction beam ball joints at 135000 miles
alternater at 140000 i have 4 10-inch subs and two 600 watt amps...so that explains that

this is all my personal experiences.....i dont know what everyone else thinks about diamler chrystler dodge jeep but i think it is pure crap jeep used to be good when it was jeep

that is my opinion....

The real winner here will be the company that develops high performance alt fueled engines. With the gas automobile ownership in China (read: A BILLION people) reaching record proportions, you can bet that there not be much oil for very long.

Go Hydrogen powered Triton, Vortec, or Hemi!

This is the way I look at it. Ford lets dodge develop a product then Ford goes on to match it and then some.

I look at it this way, when dodge released the 94 ram, both ford and GM were playing catch up, as stated before. The superduty body design is a blatant ripoff of the Dodge design. While I own a superduty, I would probably would have bought the ram HD if it wa not more expensive by $3000 for the same options.

Look at it this way:
Dodge came out with a V10, ford did it a few years later
Dodge has a 5.9Liter diesel, ford had to make a 6.0
Dodge has a fendered styling, Ford had to do it later on the superduties, Yes it is less pronounced but it is there.

Chrysler has always been the inovator of the big 3. The other 2 companies take their cues from mopar, and improve on them.
Sorry for the rant, but I am a dodge and ford fan so I will defend both makes. As far as GM, they can pound it. They havent made anything decent since the 70's.

i agree with the statement about gm, but i dont think ford is following dodge one bit by making the 6.0 diesel. the 7.3 was a hell of a work horse v-8, and the new 6.0 is even a harder workhorse. ford cant just sit there with current chassi engine and interiors. they need to keep improving to beat the competition. the 6.0 is completly different than the cummings 5.9. the displacement numbers may be close, but the 6.0 is v-8 compared to straight six for the cummings.

that would be like saying, oh chevy came out with the six liter gas engine, now ford is copying it with the six liter diesel..

apples and oranges man....

however i do like the looks of both ford and dodge. i think the previous dodge looked tougher than this one. this one looks to be more like a luxuory vehicle...

just my 2 cents...

Why would ford copy the body style of one of the worst selling trucks on the road? I don't understand the V10 comment. The number of cylinders is the only thing those two blocks have in common.

Ford had some of the worst trannies ever built in their older models and small things go wrong in a bunch of their cars- Ford Probe had some of the worst CV Joints ever in cars, Trannies in Mustangs always loose the synchro's in 2nd gear (87-95, newer models are better) but like you said apples to oranges. You can't talk about dodge trucks trannies being bad and then leave out what goes wrong with Fords who has been known for sloppy trannies. All of them have problems, I have a 92 bronco lifted, stereo, 168,000 miles and still hasn't had any engine problems but the tranny is annoying like outmeal and has weak shifts. my buddy has a 91 F150 same engine and drivetrain, he's put over $6000 into it with new engine, and drivetrain problems, computer, etc. and it still runs like ****. I know Dodges have had problems but their engines have always been strong. Chevy's just suck in general and are having plenty of problems with their new engines. Its all about personal preference, I own a Ford but would take a Dodge any day over one. Like previously stated, their styling is constantly copied, the new F150 has that big pronounced nose just like dodge did with their new model, Ford followed suit with a big front end just when everyone thought that the dodges was too big.

sounds to me like you are more a mopar fan than a ford fan

and the 5.9 is pretty weak for having such displacement...

underpowered even to what you may call a weak ford 5.4 that is actually a hell of a engine...

The 360 was kind of a sub-par engine. It produced less power with more displacement and worse fuel economy than a 350. I'm not sure on how it stacks up against the 351 or 5.4l.
