Truck is a work truck, pulling landscape trailers, dump trailers, etc.
In the winter it plows a lot of snow.
Last year after plowing about 20hrs straight in deep powder snow conditions I had this issue.
Shift from reverse to forward, and go to move basically and it doesnt move. Revs like it's in neutral. Back to reverse it's fine, back to drive it's fine. An hour later same pattern, goes into drive but it starts in 3rd gear. Call dealer immediately next am, they get it in, can't replicate problem, checked everything over, found that there was a communication error that the computer picked up. They claim moisture in the plug to the trans was the issue, and "fixed it".
This year I've now had the same issue twice. But I've had to shut the truck off and turn it back on to get it to function correctly. Dealer has yet to call me back from yesterday, just seeing if anyone else has any input.
I do fluid changes annually, have the trans temp on the screen all day, and have always been careful to not quick shift, but it does happen occasionally, I'm only human. Never had a trans issue in any of my plow trucks, ever.

I have the same truck but a CC, mine has done this since day 1, only when plowing and exactly as described although I also sometimes get some additional warning lights. When it happens the truck must be shut off and restarted and then its good for a while. I have never been able to figure it out and neither has the dealer and it has been there several times.
My G trans has a bit of a lag when going from reverse to drive and vice versa. I did not move my Boss V plow to this truck, but I often think that this lag would have bothered me if I had. Are your trucks charging sufficiently when these issues occur? Do they show any other odd actions when the G is acting up? My last plow truck was a Ram 6.7 Cummins and even with the dual batteries and HD charging system it would do funky things if I was doing a lot of lift/angle pump work w/o giving it a bit of recharge time.

One thing I know is its not low voltage, I do monitor it and it never drops at all. This is a very intermittent problem, it could happen 10 min after a start plowing or I could go all night and never have an issue.

Agreed, I have never had a voltage issue until my battery crapped in Dec. Never corresponded with this issue the trans has. I'm glad I'm not alone, the dealer claims I am, and they don't even want the truck unless I can replicate it for them. Well how can I, like you said, it could happen the next time I drive it, or 15 days from now. If I'm in the groove plowing with the radio on, it scares me into thinking the trans is done when it happens, after a brief panic I shut the truck off and turn it on and keep going...Annoying to say the least.
I keep questioning whether or not I want to keep this truck out of warranty, buy an extended warranty, or just get a new one....
Possible TCM is going bad? Has anyone either put a shift kit in and/or put a tune on the truck (this would boost line pressure by 25%)? Anyone had TCM reflashed?

Just for the record I am a mechanic by trade. I do believe that it is electrical or software that causes the problems as it does not feel or act like hardware in my opinion. My truck is stock and is running all the latest software as I own an IDS so I update anytime a new version of any module becomes available. It has been a while since I check so I do not remember the codes but my truck stores codes each time the problem occurs.

Aside from my plows, my truck is bone stock. I looked at my paperwork from my last dealer visit and it doesnt specify anything being reflashed.

Agreed, I'm not a mechanic, but mechanically inclined for sure. My mind just plays the mechanical failure game with me whenever it does it and Im working under pressure. I'll have to see if there was a code on my sheets, I'll look in the morning when I get to the shop. I think I recall them saying that the truck lost communication with the trans, or whatever controls it. That's when they blamed it on moisture in the harness connector.
Still no call back today, my contact there that I've worked with since 15 isn't there anymore, super bummed.
