Id recommend hitting up boostedgreydesigns aka BoostedGreyGoose. They make custom harnesses that are PnP. I know that on the high trims they offer a push button release. At the very least he might be able to give you an idea on how the system would work and could probably help you build one the right way.
I could be wrong, but I thought the higher-end Super Duties had an electronic tailgate release on the dash where the electronic parking brake switch is on the F-150s. Maybe something can be done with those components, but I’m just guessing.

I figured, just thought maybe the wiring/dash plate from the Super Duty would transfer over for a clean install, guessing though. My '19 Lariat doesn't have it from the factory either.

My new to me 2018 platinum will not open with the tailgate button but does with the fob. There is 5v at the plug and the ground is grounded to chassis. There is nothing wrong with the switch, it contacts. Grounding out the 2 contacts does nothing at the plug with the switch bypassed. There is no noise when the switch is pressed.
I want to add a switch in the cab so I have a backup if the remote open fails. I do not want to have to destroy an expensive tonneau cover if I cant open the tailgate.

I dont blame you. Our 18 f150 does the same thing.
