Well I've been noticing my old girl has been losing motor oil. Started at less than a 1/4 quart within a 3k oil change, now I'm at a half quart within 800 to 1000 miles!!! I have no drips, or blue smoke out of the exhaust though? WHERE IS MY OIL GOING? Brand new radiator, brand new PVC valve, trans fluid and level are constant and clean. Radiator fluid clean and not dropping of overfilling...my first thought is burning it but like I said zero smoke at start up or while it's running
I had an expedition with a 2v 5.4 that had mysterious oil loss issues too. No leaks, drips, etc. One oil change it would lose 5 quarts in 5000 miles and the next oil change it wouldn’t lose a drop. Then 2 quarts the next time. No oil dripping down the filter, in the exhaust, near the drain plug, on the ground, etc. I put about 80k on it after that started happening and never had any issues other than having to add oil at random intervals.
I experienced oil loss using different brand of oils back in the 70's. Did you use different brands each oil change?
I had a 70 Mustang with 351 Cleveland, back in the mid 70's that would "lose" oil if I didn't use a certain brand. If I use Penzoil, it lost maybe 1/4 in 2000 miles but one oil change I used Quaker State and it used over a quart in 2000 miles.
I dunno....IME you need to be burning more than 1/2 qt every 1k to see blue smoke...so I also think you're burning it. You MIGHT see some at that Ievel if driving behind it in the perfect lighting, angle and temperature conditions.
My '07 4.6 suddenly started, too at 211k. Used to never lose a drop even after 6000+. I checked it the other day around 4k and it was down a quart. Not enough to worry, I was just surprised it was like a light switch - zero consumption to a quart in the course of 4000mi
Just turned 177k, I've owned the truck since brand new. ALWAYS use motorcraft 5w30 and 820s oil filter changed at 3 to 3500miles. ONLY thing that's changed is in the last five years I now have a company vehicle so I barely drive the f350 maybe once a week.
Motor still runs strong, never lacks power that I can tell. It's a 5.4 witt 4.30 hears not a tuned 6.7 but she can move. And again no leaks or drips anywhere....except the rear passenger head gasket on the valley side. It's been weeping there since 2009 LOL But only a weep not puddling up or anything, and no where near the oil I'm using

I had a 2002 Silverado, with a 4.8L, 55000mi Didn't have a problem, did an oil change, went from Chicago area down to Charleston Mo. oil light came on...was out of oil, no smoke no drips no nothing put in 4 qts, of oil, made it to Memphis, dropped out all the oil, put in Castrol GTX high mileage and never burned another drop of oil. I sold the truck at 135000 miles no problems.
Sometimes the driver side valve cover or passenger side vent gets clogged with carbon and old oil, causing either side to suck oil straight. Easy fix if your a DIY, all you have to do is remove the valve covers and leave the VC soaking in a 5gal bucket with degreaser (Purple power does great IMO) over night, wash it with water and blow dry the VC ports. You will be surpised at how much crap comes out of the cover where the pcv and driver side vents are. Fixed most cars I worked on that had high oil consumption.
