I was paging through summit and noticed the "B&M shift improver". I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this and what they thought of it. I have done a couple quick searches and haven't found any reviews. I do some moderate (16ft fiberglass boat) towing occasionally and thought it might help a little, not too mention I think the E4OD is very sluggish to begin with. I have just changed my tranny fluid but would still like to make it shift a little better.
I have the E4OD in my van, some days you'd swear there was no first gear. I would look at the beauman site as I have heard horror stories about the b&m kit. Search the tranny forum it has been discussed down there.
I have the B&M ShiftPlus electronic shift control...it works nice. When you are carrying a heavy load or towing something it simply causes your E40D to shift harder...so you avoid that slushy shifts which can be bad when it's working hard. You can with a flip of the switch let it go back to stock.
I had one too. For some reason it burned up literally. It worked fine of a month then nothing. When i took it out there was a big brown burn spot on the back of it and the entire tope had deformed. it also burned up my NSS. I had no backup lights and the cruse circuit would keep blowing fuses. (they are on the same circuit).
I have one and I think its great, Especially pulling a load. My trans has 262k on it and has never had anything more than the pan removed for fluid changes. For the price it's worth it.
I forgot to add that you should solder the wires into your harness and avoid the quickie connectors they supply, the corode pretty fast as I discovered which can cause the box to not function. Also seal the connection with that liquid tape stuff.
