I have seen various posts about using a friction modifier in the E4OD for the torque converter clutch. This was not specified in my haynes manual. Is this friction modifier standard or is it used as a band aid fix? I am curious b/c my truck shifts out of OD really easy and I am wondering if I should put the friction modifier in it.
I've read the thing and the additive can be bought at any parts store but I would suggest using the ford product.
I also recall the ford was suggesting the additive to be used but I can not recall why. I' sure there is a service bullentin out there some where regarding it.

There are no TSBs regarding the use of FM in the E4OD. Check the TSBs here onsite.
The FM can be useful in the event of a slipping friction material. The FM makes it a bit "stickier" and aids reducing the slippage.
If your tranny is shifting in and out of OD, it's doing so under the control of the computer which rules out a friction issue.
