in line fuel filter--HELP

OK so I am trying to convert the normal inline filter to a clear one but I cannot find a suitable piece to use to screw into the carb opening to attach the hose to.

I have attached pics of the opening in the carb, the replacement factory version(which only goes in so far) and the only piece I have found so far to even attempt to use but as you can see it does not thread in very far at all.

If anyone can please tell me where to find what I need I would be very appreciative.

If I remember correctly, those filters don't screw in very deep either. Are you sure the threads on your nipple match up to the filter. Might try taking the filter to the hardware store and matching it up with a nut and then matching the nut to a nipple.

Another option could be just to keep the stock filter. They are only a couple of bucks and change it when you change the clear one.

Or maybe hollow out the stock filter and use the body as the connector. Might not be the best option however because it would probably be hard to get all the filter media out.

Sometimes when I start to overthink things. I'll ask my wife and every now and then she'll have a simple answer that works. So maybe ask your better half LOL.

Better stop while your ahead. Never use the cheap clear glass filters or a clear plastic filter on the pressure side especially on top of the engine. It's a great potential for fire and its happened.

X2 on just get a correct NEW/Replacement one at the parts house that is a screw in filter, your carb/jets will appreciate it later. That is a high micron filter and will catch all the gas tank junk so your jests stay clean. Now if you just HAVE to ditch the OEM carb filter (like broke along the road) just drill it out, right thru the center and hook up your fuel in bound line and go. X22 on the glass thread together ones, WAY BAD FIRE HAZARD.

I guess most likely I’ll stick to the stock replacement filter instead of the fancy clear one....only real reason for the clear one was so I could “see” that fuel was
correctly to the carb to help rule out issues i am having.....but if I cannot find a connection I am comfortable with it isn’t worth risking burning the truck down lol

thanks for the replies

What is the issue you are having?
1. Obvious....fuel in tank?
2. Any in line fuel filters, like back by the tank to replace?
3. When was the last time you pulled the in tank sending unit to insp if the pick up tube "filter sock" was still attached and or not covered shut in fuel tank gunk?
FYI you have to drop the tank to pull the sending unit, unless you have a body lift.
4. Have you put low air pressure in the rubber hose that connects to the "in port" of the fuel pump and blow back towards the tank, to clear check that line?
5. Replaced fuel mechanical pump?
6. Disconnect "out line", at fuel pump and key turn truck motor over. You should get a squirt of fuel if line is not plugged and fuel pump is working. CAUTION you will be squirting GAS in the engine compartment. Best to connect short line (to the one disconnect) and direct squirt into a bucket under truck.
7. Take complete line from "out port" of fuel pump and going up to carb (is yours the OEM metal one?/ I see rubber in your pic) and make sure it is not clogged up. Again some low pressure air works great.
8. When was the last time you replaces the accelerator pump (on the carb, to the right of your metal body filter, square shape, held on with 4 bolts.) or rebuilt the carb itself?

If you want to put a clear filter somewhere, put it between the tank and before the fuel pump, preferably somewhere that isn't close to things that get hot.

I can vouch for never using a plastic filter in the engine compartment. I had on I thought was glass (DUH) and it warped and caused a big fire.

It is the clear glass one that are the fire starters not the some what clear plastic ones that have been around for ever!
Also the plastic ones where you can see the level will never fill completely so you think you have an issue when you do not.

Also that factory filter that screws into the carb uses a pipe type thread NOT A BOLT thread.
A NPT has a taper and as you tighten the taper will close and seal.

Now the filter uses the same type of taper threads as the NPT but is fine thread.
NAPA or a good hardware store should have brass fittings that have the find thread NPT.
That hose fitting in the picture is of the NPT type (WRONG THREAD PITCH) and hope you DID NOT screw it in to far and FBAR the carb threads!
